Austin, Texas– Today, the Texas Senate passed Senator Brandon Creighton’s (R-Conroe) first bill in the Texas Teacher Bill of Rights, Senate Bill 26.  The bill received unanimous, bipartisan support and now heads to the Texas House.  Senator Creighton offered the following statement:

“Today, the Texas Senate took an unprecedented step to honor and support our educators by passing SB 26 with unanimous, bipartisan support—the single greatest investment in classroom teachers ever made by a legislative body. This bill is more than just policy; it is a firm commitment to ensuring that Texas teachers are respected, supported, and financially secure.

“As the first bill in the Texas Teacher Bill of Rights, SB 26 addresses the financial challenges that educators face. But this is just the beginning.  This session, I will advance legislation to address the most pressing issues facing our educators—discipline, safety, and training—ensuring that Texas teachers have the support they need to shape the next generation of Texans.

“No other state has made a commitment of this magnitude. No legislature before us has taken such bold action to empower and protect the men and women who are the backbone of our schools. This bill is a promise—one that tells every teacher in Texas, “We have your back.”

“I have passed many bills throughout my time in the Senate, but to see unanimous support for lifting up our teachers is a moment I will always remember. It speaks to the importance of this issue and the broad consensus that our educators deserve better.

“This bill may not make the biggest headlines, but every senator, every Texan, can be proud of what we have accomplished today. Investing in our teachers is investing in the future of Texas, and I look forward to continuing this work with SB 27 and beyond.”
