The biggest issues facing Senate District 4 are fighting federal overreach, reducing the size of government, securing the border, and meeting for our water and transportation needs.
Fighting Federal Overreach/Stopping ObamaCare
In 2009, Brandon Creighton filed HCR 50, claiming Texas’ sovereignty under the Tenth Amendment, making a strong statement about the increasingly intrusive nature of the federal government. Joined by his colleagues in the House and Senate, Brandon sent a clear reminder to Washington, D.C. (and inspired similar initiatives in more than 20 other states) that the powers not delegated to the nation by the Constitution are reserved to the states or to the people.
As chair of the House Republican Caucus and now in the Texas Senate, Brandon has fought continuously against out-of-control federal government to ensure Texans run Texas.
When it comes to health care, Brandon believes we should have a state-level solution tailored to meet the needs of Texans not a one-size-fits-all mandate from Washington, D.C. Until that option is available, he will continue to fight Medicaid expansion in Texas and its economy-wrecking impact.
Reforming Welfare in Texas
Because he respects the intrinsic value of each Texan and believes in empowerment through employment, Brandon authored and passed the largest welfare reform in decades, requiring people seeking welfare benefits to undergo a drug screening. He will continue to advocate for empowering welfare reforms as a way to maximize accountability and uplift the downtrodden.
Securing the border is an essential part of a safer Texas, so Brandon has worked hard to secure the necessary funding. He played a vital role in the most recent legislative session in which Texas budgeted more than $800 million for border security which is being used to fund the efforts of our border sheriffs, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and Texas Rangers as they stop the flow of crime, drugs and illegal immigration across our border.
Until the federal government accepts its fundamental responsibility to secure the border, Brandon will continually seek the funding and support law enforcement needs to keep Texas communities safe.
Improving our Economy and Infrastructure
Texas is the nation’s economic leader thanks in large part to the fiscally conservative system put in place under nearly two decades of Republican leadership. To maintain that lead, Texas needs a suitably robust water and transportation infrastructure system. Fortunately, Texas has a leader like Brandon who is adept at crafting conservative funding solutions to meet those needs.
School/Finance Bill Port Committee & Legislation
Brandon’s innovative approaches have impacted tax reform efforts in Texas, yielding more than $1 billion dollars in tax cuts for small business along with other franchise tax reforms. While his ultimate goal is repeal of the franchise tax, he will continue crafting stair-step solutions that fund key priorities and shrink the tax burden on Texas job creators. He is also working to reign-in runaway property taxes by reducing the amount your property tax bill can go up each year from 10% – 5%.
