Building a skilled and prepared workforce for the future of Texas

I was invited to tour the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) at El Paso, particularly the Woody L. Hunt School of Dental Medicine, which we helped fund the expansion of in SB 52 during the third called Special Legislative Session.

El Paso is a long way from Conroe, but as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Higher Education, much-needed reforms at the university level will come from seeing the operations, successes, and needs of our Texas institutions in person. A skilled and prepared workforce is critical to keep our economy strong and to meet the needs of our growing state, and I’m encouraged to see the work and innovation done at TTUHSC.

Pictured with me are Dr. Tedd Mitchell, Chancellor of Texas Tech University System; Dr. Richard Lange, President of TTUHSC El Paso; Dr. Richard Black, Dean of the Woody L. Hunt School of Dental Medicine; and Dr. Richard Brower, Vice President of Academic Affairs.

This group of leaders is extremely knowledgeable in the field of healthcare and is demonstrating real progress for the healthcare worker shortage.
