State Sen. Brandon Creighton, R-Conroe, received his committee appointments for the 85th Legislature on Monday, which his office is calling a “prestigious” list of committees.

Creighton once again will serve on the Senate committees on State Affairs, Criminal Justice and Agriculture, Water and Rural Affairs. He also will reprise his vice chairmanship in the Senate Committee on Business and Commerce and is a newcomer to the Senate Committee on Transportation. During the interim, he served on the Senate Select Committee on Texas Ports.

“Water infrastructure and supply are major issues for the families of Southeast Texas,” Creighton stated in a release. “Knowing that Senate District 4 prioritizes a long-term sustainable water supply, I am eager to be in a position to advocate on their behalf for the preservation and further development of our natural resources.”

Senate Committee on Business and Commerce is tasked with overseeing the business, insurance and regulatory industries, including the electric grid in Texas.

During his tenure as a senator, Creighton has taken the lead on key issues that matter to Texas job creators, including franchise and property tax relief, water and transportation infrastructure, and border security, his office stated in the release.

He was first elected to the Texas Senate during a special election in August 2014. Prior to his election to the Texas Senate, Creighton served as state representative for House District 16, which is currently represented by state Rep.Will Metcalf, R-Conroe.

“I look forward to continue using my firsthand experience as a businessman, rancher and former House representative to press ahead with our efforts to keep Texas the success story of our nation,” Creighton stated. “(Monday’s) appointments are another victory for the citizens’ of Southeast Texas, who will have a strong advocate serving them in the Texas Senate. I appreciate the trust Lt. Gov. (Dan) Patrick has shown by allowing the 4th district of Texas to hold these appointments. I am ready to go to work.”

Metcalf and state Rep. Cecil Bell, R-Magnolia, have yet to receive their Texas House committee assignments, but both said they expect to get theirs in the coming days. State Rep. Mark Keough, R-The Woodlands, could not be reached.
