Senate District 4 Poll Shows Strong Lead for Creighton

Creighton, Toth encouraged by poll data results

Conroe Courier: Tuesday, November 26, 2013

Senate District 4 candidate Brandon Creighton, R-Conroe, claims a dominating lead over fellow House member Steve Toth, R-The Woodlands, based on a poll conducted earlier in the month.

The 400-sample poll was taken on Nov. 7 and Nov. 8. among likely special election voters in Senate District 4.

Following the resignation of Tommy Williams from the Senate last month, Gov. Rick Perry called a special election for the final three years of Williams’ seat.

In a head-to-head match-up, Creighton leads Toth 59 percent to 41 percent among decided voters. The difference increases to 61 percent to 39 percent among those voters who have only Republican primary voting history.

The margin is 65 percent to 35 percent in Creighton’s favor among Montgomery County decided voters.

“We feel very good about the race and our momentum,” Creighton said. “The polling data illustrates that the voters of District 4 recognize the need for a strong conservative that can deliver results.”

However, Toth, who made his political debut in the 83rd state Legislature, said he feels “encouraged” by the poll results.

“Two years ago (Texas Senator) Ted Cruz had only a two-percent name recognition against (Texas governor candidate) David Dewhurst,” Toth said. “Now Cruz is in the U.S. Senate. That is why we’re encouraged by those (poll) numbers.”

Creighton said the poll was conducted by Mike Baselice, of Baselice & Associates, Inc., in Austin. Among its services, the company offers opinion research for decision-making in politics and public affairs.

Baselice’s political clients have included Perry, former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, District 8 U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady (R-The Woodlands), District 4 state Sen. Robert Nichols (R-Jacksonville), and Creighton.
