Four Southeast Texas cities were named in a national safety report released on Monday that ranked the top 100 safest cities in the state of Texas.

SafeWise, a home security and safety brand, conducted the study using the most recent FBI crime data from 2014, according to a statement from the company. Any cities with fewer than 10,000 residents or any cities that failed to submit a complete crime report to the FBI were excluded from the analysis.

Using the number of reported violent crimes and property crimes reported in each city, SafeWise said its analysts then calculated the probability of crimes happening per 1,000 people per city.

According to SafeWise’s analysts, Lumberton, Port Neches, Nederland and Orange are considered some of the safest cities in the region.

Lumberton ranked highest on the list at No. 35. The Hardin County city did not make the top 100 list last year.

According to SafeWise, Lumberton has 2.14 violent crimes and 13.9 property crimes per 1,000 people. Lumberton’s population is nearly 12,000.

Port Neches ranked No. 65 on the survey, while Nederland landed at No. 90 and Orange at No. 98.
